Anghiari was the scene of the battle fought in the year 1440 between the Florentines and the Milanese and then painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Is part of the Tuscan Valtiberina, which takes its name from the river Tiber River running through its entire length.
On the origin of the name thesis are different: some argue that derives from angular castrum, referring to the angular shape of its castle, others affirm that derives its name from in glarea.
Actually the village is built on a pile of gravel accumulated by the Tiber River over the millennia.

Around it, hereinafter developed the inhabited center.
From 1104 to 1143 Camaldoli became absolute master of the whole area of Anghiari.

Splendido borgo medioevale situato nel territorio disegnato dallo scorrere dei fiumi Tevere ed Arno a 28 km da Arezzo.
La fama di Anghiari nasce dal fatto di essere stata teatro della battaglia combattuta nell'anno 1440 tra i Fiorentini e i Milanesi e in seguito dipinta da Leonardo da Vinci.

Anghiari è situata a circa 30 km da Arezzo, quasi al confine tra la Toscana e l' Umbria, nella cosiddetta Valtiberina toscana. Anghiari è un piccolo gioiello medievale incastonato su di una collina di ghiaia accumulatasi nel corso dei secoli per il passaggio del fiume Tevere, che fino alla metà del 1200 scorreva ai piedi della città.
Anghiari, con il suo caratteristico borgo protetto da imponenti mura duecentesche, conserva intatti l' atmosfera ed il fascino delle piccole città medievali.
Passeggiando per le strette vie del borgo si respira quasi un' aria d' altri tempi ed i ritmi frenetici ai quali siamo abituati appaiono dopo poco quasi un ricordo lontano.
Le case in pietra, affacciate sulle strette vie della città, hanno finestre piccole, imposte e porte di legno, talvolta un po' sconquassate, ma assolutamente caratteristiche.
Gli ingressi ed i davanzali delle abitazioni sono spesso impreziositi con fiori e piante, che contribuiscono a scaldare e colorare i vicoli di Anghiari, rendendoli ancora più graziosi.

Come arrivare ad Anghiari in auto
Autostrada A1 con uscita ad Arezzo, poi prendere la SS 73 fino a Cesena, poi Superstrada E 45 uscita Sansepolcro.
Infine seguire le indicazioni stradali.
