Italy is one of the most romantic places on Earth. No matter which you choose, every Italian city guarantees honeymoon-worthy romance.
Top romantic places in Italy, the most romantic destination you could think of. Here are Italy most romantic off the beaten path Italian destinations
Italy remains one of the best locations for lovebirds.
Shakespeare's greatest love story, the tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, was situated in the Italian city of Verona
This fact alone may be all the motivation you need to pick this country to celebrate a honeymoon, anniversary, or simply enjoy the presence of your significant other.

Venice

As much as we have tried to exclude it from the list as it seems a bit too predictable, there is no way that a list of the most romantic places in Italy would be complete without including Venice on it.
Whilst the tourists that flock to the city can make it feel a bit too busy to offer the chance for some quiet time as a couple during the day, once the crowds have gone home, there is nothing more romantic than being serenaded by your gondolier as he leads you through the narrow canals of the city.
The magnificent Bellini Venice’s iconic cocktail, was born at Harry’s Bar in 1948. Giuseppe Cipriani, owner of Harry’s Bar, was inspired to create the cocktail from his love for paintings by Giovanni Bellini.
White peaches were abundant in Italy in the spring, and Cipriani wanted to find a way to capture their fragrance and beautiful pink flesh in a drink for his guests.
What could be more romantic than sharing small plates with your love as you watch the gondoliers glide by on the Grand Canal?
A little branzino, a succulent baked cuttlefish, and the ubiquitous sarde in saor, all washed down with an ombra, or glass of local wine.
Gondola rides aren’t the only romantic thing you can do in Venice!
A labyrinth of medieval alleyways and canals is the perfect place to get lost, snatching the odd moment of solitude.
If you walk out of St Mark’s Square you will reach the Cannaregio area.
Another pretty romantic area is Dorsoduro, the southern part of Venice.
It feels more like a village, far away from the huge crowds and the fuss of the touristic side of the city.
This area is full of cute bars where you can drink without spending too much, and it’s also close to Campo Santa Margherita, generally busy with students and lovers.

Rome
Rome is a city where romance is truly in abundance.
As in Florence, grab a prime viewing spot to watch the sun setting over the city.
We recommend heading to the Piazza Garibaldi in Monteverde.
Enjoy a glass of wine and take in the views.

Terni
Perhaps surprisingly, Terni is the first on our list of most romantic places in Italy. However, with the town’s links to St Valentine, how could we not include it?!! Terni is a small hilltop town in Umbria.
In 1644, the residents of the city of Terni proclaimed Valentine their Patron Saint, also declaring him to be the Patron Saint of lovers at the same time.
Surely heading to what could arguably be called the birthplace of St Valentine’s Day has to kindle some romance?

Verona
Home as it is to the famous balcony of Romeo and Juliet at the House of Giulietta, Verona is a much more obvious choice to feature in a list of Italy’s most romantic cities.
It’s charming cobbled streets are teeming with couples and each year thousands flock to Juliet’s balcony to attach padlocks to the gates, leave letters in the cracks in its walls or have their photo taken.

Pienza in Tuscany region
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996, Pienza too often gets missed off the tourist trail but it definitely deserves it’s place on this list.
After all, the town even has streets named ‘Via dell Amore’ (Street of Love) and ‘Via dell Baccio’ (Street of the kiss).
It is also home to the Palazzo Piccolomini, which was used as a set location by Franco Zeffirelli to film some of the scenes from arguably his most famous and romantic movie, Romeo and Juliet.
If architecture is your aphrodisiac, Pienza is the date spot for you.
This World Heritage Site village overlooking the Orcia valley has some of Italy’s finest original Renaissance buildings, not least the impossibly elegant Palazzo Piccolomini – which is one of the locations where Franco Zeffirelli chose to film his dreamy 1960s Romeo and Juliet.

Tuscany region and Florence
Fall in love with your significant other all over again under the Tuscan sun.
The abundantly green landscape and historical wonders make this location feel somewhat unreal.
A range of boutiques, galleries, and aesthetic beauty would easily make anyone want to fall in love in this Medieval town.
Tuscany is home to some of the most startlingly beautiful landscapes in all of Italy—and there’s no more romantic way to view them than on a wine-tasting tour along the Tuscan wine trail.
Sample classic Chianti as well as the region’s other classic appellations, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano accompanied by incredible food showcasing delectable Tuscan cuisine.
It’s an oenophile’s paradise, made even better in the company of someone you love.
If you’re really after la dolce vita, you simply must share some Italian chocolate with someone you love.
And no one does it better than the artisans in Tuscany’s “Chocolate Valley” Try Amadei for deliciously rich Toscano Black Chocolate, or Roberto Catinari, Pistoia’s original chocolatier, for delicately beautiful handmade creations.

Florence

The Tuscan capital of Florence takes home the crown for the most romantic location in Italy.
Lovebirds, be ready to spend your days basking in the city's unique architecture and many masterpieces.
Instead of joining the growing trend of lovebirds who bring a padlock with them to the city’s most famous bridge the Ponte Vecchio and adding it to the hundreds already in place on the structure of the bridge, be a bit more creative.

Head instead to Michelangelo’s Piazza as the sun sets to enjoy a wonderfully romantic view over the city.
Buy a lucchetti d’amore to lock in your love and throw away the key on the Ponte Vecchio
The Ponte Vecchio is garlanded with thousands of Padlocks of Love, a custom that began during the Great War, when soldiers would leave the locks as a promise to return to their loves at home.
Things got a little crazy in Italy after the release of the wildly popular movie “Ho Voglia di Te,” or “I Want You.”
A scene in the movie shows the couple writing their names on a padlock and locking it to a lamppost before throwing the key in the River Arno.

Tivoli
Tivoli might be the best option for anyone looking for an extremely intimate place.
This place distinguishes itself from the other locations on this list due to its overwhelmingly beautiful waterfall.
Lovers of long romantic strolls may benefit from the town's full gardens, complex historic attractions prolific waterfalls.

Ostuni
The "White City" is the gem of Puglia, the southeastern region of Italy (the heel of the boot).
You may do a double-take when you catch sight of the white, flat-topped houses, perched on a perfect little hill, which look like they belong on a Greek island. (It's not a coincidence, since Puglia is approximately 45 miles from Greece across the Adriatic Sea).
This tiny town is the perfect less-touristed beachfront hideout during warm months, when couples can dip in the azure waters after wandering the village's labyrinthine streets.

Positano
With its pastel-colored houses that climb from the sea to the top of a steep cliff, Positano is one of those places that takes your breath away literally.
Often referred to as the "vertical town," the only way to get up and down the hillside is by traversing narrow, steep steps. But all the physical exertion is worth it when you arrive at Le Sirenuse for sunset cocktails on the terrace of the bougainvillea-covered Champagne Bar.

Ravello
Situated on a cliff of the Almafi Coast, this small village is a hidden gem overlooking the sea. While it usually does not get many travelers, it remains a place to consider to anyone seeking small-town fun and privacy.

Lake Como
Lake Como and Bond villains are not the only things you can find in this celebrity-coveted town. Begin your romantic journey in the commune of Como by hopping on the tiny streets and visiting the local shops.
You'll find delicious wine to accompany you during dinner at the famous Villa D'este.

Portofino
Located on the northern shore of Italy, Portofino (also known as the ''fishing village'') is a place for lovers of love and fashion.
The streets are predominantly lined with high-end fashion retailers and expansive harbors housing expensive yachts.

Cinque Terre - Five lands
Cinque Terre is the perfect spot to visit in order to get a break from the city.
Although these coastal villages are inaccessible by car, you may reach them via train. Herein, the attractions include hiking trails, delicious foods incorporating Cinque Terre's famous local pesto and high-quality wine.

Hidden canals of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna region
For an alternative to Venice’s crowded canals, seek out the lesser-known waterways of Bologna.
While many of the city’s medieval canals were covered over, parts of the network are still visible today to those who know where to look.
The most famous view is from Via Piella, where a tiny window looks out across the Canale delle Moline as it flows between charming coloured houses.
There are also viewing spots in Via Oberdan and from the bridge in Via Malcontenti; for a full list, check out the tourist office’s free guide.

Gardens of Ninfa in Lazio region
Built on the site of Roman and medieval ruins, these gardens are a short drive from Rome, but a whole world away.
They were cultivated in the 1920s by the English wife of an Italian duke, who turned several acres into a carefully landscaped oasis in the Lazio countryside.

Cascata delle Marmore in Umbria region
These waterfalls may be man-made, but it was the Ancient Romans that made them which makes it all the more astonishing that they’re the tallest of their kind in the world. And because they’re artificial they can be switched on and off, which they are a couple of times daily.

Villa d’Este gardens and fountains in Tivoli
Villa d’Este, with its fabulous palace, garden and fountains, is one of the most remarkable Italian Renaissance accomplishments, and, in my view, an incredibly romantic place, especially when visited after sunset.
It is located in the small town of Tivoli, 30 km from Rome.

Island of Ponza hidden jewel in the Mediterranean sea
For sure you know Capri, you may have heard of the islands of Ischia and Elba, but hardly anyone other than Italians goes to Ponza: lukily enough, this tiny group of islands has managed to stay away from mainstream touristic itineraries.

Ninfa romantic gardens
The enchanting Ninfa English garden in the Roman countryside was once a small agricultural town founded under the Roman Empire, passed through the ages from Pope Pasquale II in the 12th century to the Colonna family in 1293 until the 14th century, when a devastating war with the neighboring cities brought about the fall of Ninfa and its definitive abandonment.

AMALFI COAST - SEA FESTIVALS AND NEAPOLITAN FOOD
A road trip on the Amalfi Coast can be the perfect romantic trip to Italy that you can plan to surprise your partner.
According to the season, there are many festivals or events that you can attend, like the Ravello Festival (one of the oldest and most renowned music festivals in Italy) or several food festivals where you can taste traditional Neapolitan food at tiny prices.
If you’re interested in tanning and getting lazy, then by all means, explore all the best beaches on the Amalfi Coast: many of them are only known to the locals!
